Due to a recent rise in Covid infections, Greece, the Netherlands, parts of Denmark, the Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand will be classified as “basic risk areas” (areas with increased SARS-CoV-2 infection risk) from Sunday, July 18. This means that people returning to Germany from these countries must provide a negative antigen rapid test or PCR test (72 hours) to if they are not vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid-19. Vaccinated travelers and those who have recovered must present proof in print of digital form. Moreover, random rapid tests may also take place upon landing in Germany. Travelers returning to Germany from risk areas must register online before arriving in Germany. The classification as a risk area is based on a joint analysis and decision by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs.
