New Covid-19 Measures for Mykonos: Curfew and Music Ban

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection on Saturday announced extra precautionary measures for the popular Greek destination of Mykonos aimed at curbing the further spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to an announcement by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, the new restrictions for the island include:

– A five-hour overnight curfew from 1am to 6am (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons).
– A 24-hour music ban (at all beach bars, cafes, restaurants, bars) which will begin on Saturday at 6pm.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection reminds that private gatherings and events with the presence of more than 20 people are banned. Violators that organize private parties will be hit with fines amounting from 50,000 to 200,000 euros.

The measures will be in force until Monday, July 26 at 6am.

The new Covid-19 measures for Mykonos follow the National Public Health Organization’s (EODY) announcement on Friday that 40 new cases were recorded on the island. According to authorities, the number of active cases on Mykonos within a week quadrupled from 77 to 318 on July 7.

“We call on the residents, visitors and professionals of our beautiful island to faithfully observe the safety measures… so that the spread of the virus is limited and Mykonos can return to normal,” Greek Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias said.

Mykonos is one of the six areas in Greece where Covid-19 cases have recently increased due to the fast spread of the Delta variant. The popular island of Mykonos, along with Ios, Paros, Santorini and Heraklion and Rethymno on Crete, have been moved to “orange” status on Greece’s color-coded risk-assessment map.

At the moment no additional Covid-19 precautionary measures have been announced for the other five Covid-hit Greek destinations.
