The Messinia Hoteliers Association is urging people to get vaccinated through a new campaign launched to raise awareness on preventing the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) and to protect the area’s residents and visitors. The association has created a poster with the motto “Get Vaccinated, free yourselves, enjoy life” that is available in outdoor and indoor areas as well as online. “This message is addressed both to tourism professionals and the government: They must not leave uncovered a sector that depends on the restart of the economy and has suffered a serious blow due to the pandemic,” the association said in an announcement. The campaign also aims to pass on the message to travelers that Messinia is a safe destination. “Tourism is our last hope to win what we have lost so far. And this can only happen now, in the peak of the tourism season, when neither mistakes nor omissions are forgiven,” it added. Hoteliers call for mandatory vaccination in tourism industry In the announcement, the hoteliers of Messinia also referred to the Greek government’s scheme for the mandatory vaccination of some groups. As they said, the Council of State has given the green light for authorities to overcome the constitutional obstacles for mandatory vaccination due to compelling reasons of public interest. “Public interest is connected to the health safety of tourism professionals, employees and visitors, while the course of the holiday season will determine the progress of arrivals and revenues,” the association said. The hoteliers stressed that there is no time for further delays and the state must make brave decisions. “We consider imperative the need to introduce mandatory vaccination in the (tourism) industry and specifically as part of the procedures for issuing the (employees’) health booklet, which remains inactive and needs to be updated under the new circumstances that have emerged from the pandemic,” the association added. The campaign was launched with the support of the Diaplasis Rehabilitation Center and City Hospital in Kalamata.
