Budgeted at 232,000 euros, the project is part of the ministry’s plan to improve access to museums, archaeological sites and cultural venues across Greece. According to an announcement by the ministry, works will be carried out in certain parts of Corfu’s Old Fortress and include the installment of special earthen floors, tiles, and the construction of ramps in the exhibition spaces, as well as the removal of the concrete surface in two areas. The project also foresees the installment of special signage in select locations and the production of information material for people with disabilities. In addition, special digital applications will be developed in museums of the old town. Meanwhile, the culture ministry will carry out a study for accessibility interventions in four areas of the old town, namely the entrance of the Old Fortress, the Panagia Kremasti square (Venetian well), the Agia Irini square and the area of Corfu’s Cathedral. “We are carrying out a program of works and actions across Greece – from the Acropolis in Athens to smaller archaeological sites and museums – in order for our monuments to become disability-friendly and accessible to all visitors,” Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said. She added that the goal is for all projects to be completed by 2025 Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
