Heraklion has been moved to “red” (level 4) status on Greece’s Covid-19 risk-assessment map due to a spike in cases, the General Secretariat said in an announcement. The five-hour overnight curfew will be from 1am to 6am (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons) and music will be banned at all beach bars, cafes, restaurants and bars for 24 hours. The measures will be in force from Wednesday, August 11, until Tuesday, August 17, and then be re-evaluated by the Covid-19 health committee of experts. Moreover, private gatherings and events with the presence of more than 20 people are banned. Violators that organize private parties will be hit with fines amounting from 50,000 to 200,000 euros. Heraklion is the fourth Greek destination this summer to see extra precautionary measures against Covid-19. Greek authorities last week imposed the same measures on Zakynthos and Chania.
