Germany has announced that it will move Crete and the South Aegean Islands on its Covid-19 “high risk” travel list as of midnight, Tuesday, August 24.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases, Crete and the Aegean islands will be classified as “areas with a high risk of infection due to particularly high incidences for the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus”.

Travelers entering Germany from high-risk areas must go into quarantine for 10 days unless they have been fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19.

Self-isolation can be ended after five days at the earliest with a negative test result, which must be submitted via the entry portal of the Federal Republic of Germany at https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de.

Since Sunday, August 22, Germany has also included Kosovo, North Macedonia, and parts of Ireland on its high-risk list.

On the other hand, Andorra, some regions of Spain (Asturias, Castile-La Mancha, Catalonia and Valencia) and the Canary Islands are no longer considered high risk areas.

Germany’s travel rules can be found here.
