The priority is to ensure tourism enterprises on Evia, which were affected by the devastating fires earlier this month, will be operational as soon as possible, said Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis during an inspection visit to the island this week.

Theoharis said proposals including “increasing a thermal spring therapy allotment as well as allowing the use of vouchers for travelers who had booked in order to avoid reimbursements were implemented within a few days”.

The minister visited leading Evia tourist spots, including the resort town of Agia Anna, which was destroyed by the fires, and Loutra Edipsos, where he met with local authorities and tourism stakeholders.

He described the meeting as “productive” and said that additional proposals were recorded for the relief of residents, employees, and tourism enterprises, which he will convey to the government’s Evia reconstruction committee in order to ensure quick results without delays.

Theoharis said that the government and the ministry were fully dedicated to ensuring the speedy recovery of the island.

“The government stands by the side of the people of Northern Evia and has already taken initiatives for the immediate resolution of the issues that concern them,” he said.

“Together we will be able to help in the regeneration and rebirth of Evia.”

On Tuesday, the Region of Central Greece agreed to release 40 million euros for the reconstruction efforts in Northern Evia.
