Organized every September by the European Union and the Council of Europe, the European Heritage Days is among the most widely celebrated participatory cultural events in Europe. During the European Heritage Days, thousands of monuments and sites open their doors, allowing people to enjoy free visits, learn about their shared cultural heritage and become part of efforts to safeguard Europe’s heritage for present and future generations. Heritage: All inclusive! Under the theme “Heritage: All inclusive!”, this year’s celebrations offer the opportunity to the Acropolis Museum to reach out to people with a different cultural background and experiences and encourage them to get familiar with Greece’s history and culture. Participants will have the chance to learn more on the Acropolis hill and its significant moments, history, art as well as its creators and exchange views and experiences with the museum’s archaeologists. The one-hour program titled “A museum open to all”, will take place during September 24-26 at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Each group will consist of 20 persons. Refugee and migrant organizations interested in participating must send their request until September 17, via e-mail at learning@theacropolismuseum.gr or call at +30 210 9000900 ext. 414. The events will take place in accordance with the latest health regulations announced by Greek authorities to prevent the spread of Covid–19. The use of masks (not provided by the museum) and personal acoustic devices known as “whispers” (provided by the museum) is mandatory.
