An agreement recently signed between the municipality and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania foresees that research will be conducted between September and early November to define “the profile of tourists, the satisfaction rates, the implementation of health and safety rules and the prospects of extending the tourism season”. According to the Athens News Agency, the survey’s findings will be compared to previous data by the institute to define the impact that the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has had on Chania’s brand name. Furthermore, the survey will focus on the factors that have led travelers to choose Chania as a tourism destination, their consumer habits and their opinion on issues related to the implementation of safety measures, the city’s infrastructure, cleanliness, local products etc. The survey will also compare secondary data related to the arrival of foreign travelers in efforts to evaluate tourism traffic in Chania and generally on Crete. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in the survey by filling out an online questionnaire through their personal electronic devices (smartphones, tablets etc). The municipality will also offer information to travelers arriving at the Chania International Airport through its special representatives. Furthermore, it will provide visitors with information at central locations in Chania through roll up banners and posters that will be activated in the language of their choice with a URL or QR code through their personal devices. The survey will provide valuable insight on the evaluation of Chania by visitors, as a Covid-free tourism destination, as local authorities examine ways of extending the tourism season.
