Kavala, Imathia, Pieria and Pella Go ‘Red’ on Greece’s Covid-19 Map

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection on Thursday announced that the regional units of Kavala, Imathia, Pieria and Pella in northern Greece have moved to Covid-19 ‘red’ level on the country’s coronavirus risk-assessment map, due to a rise in cases.

Therefore, as of Friday, September 17 and until Friday, September 24, residents in the four regional units will be obliged to follow emergency restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19. Restrictions include an overnight curfew and a 24-hour music ban.

Moreover, following an evaluation by Greece’s Covid-19 committee of health experts, the regional units of Argolida and Evritania will remain in ‘red’ status until further notice.

The restrictions for Greek regional units and municipalities in “red” status include:

– a five-hour overnight curfew from 1am to 6am (movement is allowed only for work and health reasons).
– a 24-hour music ban at all cafes, restaurants, bars.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection reminds that private gatherings and events with the presence of more than 20 people are banned. Violators that organize private parties will be hit with fines amounting from 50,000 to 200,000 euros.

The committee of health measures also announced that the regional units of Heraklion, Achaia, Ilia, Messinia and the municipality of Ikaria were moved to Covid-19 ‘orange’ level on the risk-assessment map and therefore emergency restrictions can be lifted.

Greek health authorities on Thursday announced 2,322 new coronavirus cases, 359 patients on ventilators and 42 deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of cases in the country has reached 625,083. The Covid-19 death toll in Greece is 14,354.
