The Athens Democracy Forum and Costa Navarino, during October 1-3, will hold the annual “The Spirit of Democracy Weekend” event in the resort’s facilities in Messinia, Greece’s southwest Peloponnese.

The three-day event will explore how the Eastern and Western approaches to achieving a nobility of spirit and – embracing the differences and commonalities of various cultures – have the capacity to inform, refresh and even help “heal” democracy.

A number of prominent personalities will participate in the event – either in-person or virtually – including artist Ai Weiwei, historian Bettany Hughes, writers Elif Shafak and Maria Ressa, as well as former UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.

The discussions will be moderated by Patrick Healy, Deputy Opinion Editor and Steven Erlanger, Chief European Diplomatic Correspondent of the New York Times.

The weekend event will take place at The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort. In addition to the series of talks and book readings, parallel events will include book reading sessions, philosophy walks and yoga classes in Messinian nature.
