Kakarouhas Athens was the most searched for destination in August by potential travelers from the US, UK and France, according to findings released on Wednesday by the data and analytics team of travel and tourism agency Tourix. More specifically, Athens featured highly this year in online searches for accommodation, with interest by US users increasing overall compared to 2020. Volume of searches (%) compared to last year. Source: Tourix Analytics the number of online searches for accommodation in Athens in August this year were higher compared to the same month in 2020. The strongest demand was from Cyprus and the US. A closer look reveals a 20 percent increase in searches from Israel. Searches were also up by 132 percent from the US, 32 percent from France, 202 percent from Cyprus, 32 percent from Italy, 62 percent from Holland, 15 percent from Germany, and 62 percent from Canada Source: Tourix Analytics searches slowed down in August compared to July, with the exception of Cyprus and the UK, which recorded increases of 15 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Overall, August marked a 6 percent decline compared to July. In the same period, search activity from Israel dropped by 44 percent. Searches were also down by 6 percent from France, 24 percent from the US, 8 percent from Germany, 5 percent from the Netherlands, 12 percent from Italy and 12 percent from Canada. The Tourix Analytics findings were based on 1,819 search terms for accommodation in Athens.
