According to the data released by state news agency TASS, Greece is revealed as the most popular destination for Russian holidaymakers during the so called “velvet season”, which includes the early autumn months. Citing the data, the Athens News Agency (ANA) reported that Greece has gathered 15.5 percent of the total number of insurance contracts for travel abroad during the months of September and October. Other favorite international autumn vacation spots for the Russians are Turkey (10 percent) Cyprus (5.6 percent), Croatia (4.4 percent) and Italy (3.2 percent). A smaller number of Russians opt for Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and China. “Although the [coronavirus] pandemic still prevents our customers from traveling, international trips that require insurance coverage, are still quite popular during the velvet season,” said Dmitry Litovchenko, head of digital entrepreneurship at Rosgosstrakh. Rosgosstrakh is a member of the Otkritie Bank Group. It has more than 1,600 offices in Russia and some 50,000 employees and insurance agents.
