Photo source: @Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments – Culture Ministry Greece is celebrating the European Days of Conservation-Restoration 2021 with a number of events taking place across the country until October 10. Organized for a fourth year by the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers’ Organisations (ECCO), the European Days is an opportunity to raise awareness on the key role of conservation-restoration in safeguarding cultural heritage and share knowledge of the complex activity of this discrete profession. During the European Days, Conservator-Restorers invite visitors to their working places: museums ateliers, private studios, university studios and conservation-restoration sites in monuments and explain their actual conservation-restoration projects with case studies to the public. Events in Greece, which began on October 4, include a number of digital activities and physical events at conservation-restoration labs throughout the country. Digital and on-site visits take place at museums and archaeological sites through thematic tours, educational programs and more. Celebrations will culminate on Sunday, October 10, with live events in the cities of Athens and Kozani as well as online screenings and educational activities. For the full program of events (in Greek) press here. The program of activities is coordinated by the Culture Ministry’s Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments, the Association of Archaeology and Artwork Conservators of Higher Education and ICOM (International Council of Museums) Greece.
