UK leisure travel group Jet2 has announced that in 2022 it will increase its frequency to Thessaloniki’s Makedonia International Airport in Northern Greece.

More specifically, Jet2 next season will increase its weekly direct flights, from England to Thessaloniki, from 6 to 10.

The company, through its leisure airline Jet2.com, already had flights to Thessaloniki from London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and New Castle. The 2022 season will also the airline flying from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and East Midlands.

Jet2 runs leisure flights through Jet2.com and package holidays through its tour operator Jet2holidays.

The news about the frequency increase was announced by Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, during a company roadshow in Halkidiki, northern Greece.

“Jet2’s decision to increase frequency to Makedonia International Airport is a ‘vote of confidence’ to Halkidiki’s tourism professionals and hotel staff,” the Halkidiki Tourism Organization said in an announcement.

Speaking during the event, the organization’s president, Grigoris Tasios, applauded Jet2’s decision, noting that Halkidiki sees the company as its “main and most trusted” tour operator from the UK. Tasios is also the chairman of the Halkidiki Hotel Association and the president of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation.

Jet2.com first began flying to Makedonia International Airport in 2017 and since then has formed a very close cooperation with the Region of Central Macedonia, the tourism organizations of Halkidiki and Thessaloniki and Fraport Greece, the airport’s manager.

According to the organization, the result of the good cooperation was the increase in airline seats from 22,000 in 2019 to 25,500 in 2022.

Moreover, the cooperation is strengthened annually by joint promotional actions.

A recent Jet2Holidays customer satisfaction survey showed that 88 percent of travelers to Halkidiki are repeat visitors with an average stay of 7 days. Visitors are mainly of couples and families that reside in over 70 accommodation units.
