With the addition of new innovative bioclimatic green areas, the municipality aims to upgrade the quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods, offer more free space to its residents and visitors, and “breath life” into abandoned areas. The most recent pocket park in Athens is located on on Leagrou street in the neighborhood of Agios Artemios. It is the city’s seventh pocket park to date. The new park features two new tall trees and 250 perennial plants that offer long bloom periods. One of the park’s concrete walls has been covered by sugarcanes, while the surrounding area features two rows of tall evergreen shrubs. All walls have been painted and lighting has been enhanced with photovoltaic panels that offer safety and energy autonomy. Furthermore, the park features a new irrigation system and urban equipment. According to the municipality, once the pocket park network is completed it is expected to significantly upgrade life in the city.
