Greece is aiming to build an ecosystem for tourism data and statistics through tools that are being prepared such as the Tourism Satellite Account and the Sustainable Tourism Observatory, according to the Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Vicky Loizou. Speaking in Seoul during the 1st Global Forum on Tourism Statistics, Knowledge and Policies of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Loizou said the ecosystem will also use data from payment providers and international tourism services and from a new forecasting model for arrivals and real-time arrival monitoring systems. During her speech at the forum, Loizou stressed the significance of accurate and timely statistics in decision making, policy design and crisis management. Held in early November, the 1st Global Forum on Tourism Statistics, Knowledge and Policies brought together senior policy makers, statisticians and leaders from the private sector and civil society to exchange ideas, views and experience. The event took place in a hybrid form under the theme “Reshaping tourism for a more resilient and sustainable tomorrow”. While in Seoul, Loizou held meetings with the country’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Minister Huang Hee and Deputy Minister Kim Jeong Bae. She also met with the vice president of the Korea Tourism Organization, Shin Sang Yong. Among issues discussed were ways to enhance bilateral tourism cooperation, increase tourism flows between the two countries and use new technologies for the promotion of Greek destinations.
