Unvaccinated individuals traveling to Germany from four EU countries, including Greece, as of Sunday will be required to quarantine upon arrival, according to the latest guidelines issued by the Robert Koch Institute.

Germany’s updated list of high-risk areas, which now includes Greece, Ireland, Belgium and The Netherlands, will be effective as of 12am on Sunday, November 21.

This means that people who have spent time in high-risk areas within 10 days prior to entering Germany and are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or cannot provide proof of recovery must self isolate for 10 days.

Self-isolation can be ended after five days at the earliest with a negative test result, which must be submitted via the entry portal of the Federal Republic of Germany at https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de.

Travelers are also obliged to fill out the digital registration on entry at https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de and carry the confirmation with them when entering the country.

These restrictions will not apply to Dutch islands Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten.

Moreover, Germany has removed five countries and regions from its high-risk list: Costa Rica; France – the overseas departments French Guiana and New Caledonia; Guatemala; Guyana, and Suriname.

It is reminded that persons aged 12 or over must, as a rule, possess a negative test result or proof of vaccination or recovery when entering Germany.

The Robert Koch Institute warns that classification of risk areas can change at short term. Travelers are advised to check immediately before departure whether the countries in which they have stayed in the last 10 days before entering Germany are classified as high-risk areas.
