Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias with Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) President Giorgos Karanikas.

The time has come to set up a framework that will regulate the operation of tourism trade activity, said Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias this week after meeting with Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) President Giorgos Karanikas.

Kikilias underlined the importance of trade in the promotion of the tourism product and its contribution to the tourist experience, the economy and society.

Karanikas said cooperation between stakeholders and merchants would support the further enhancement of the tourism product.

“Greek trade contributes significantly to the country’s tourism product and we must clearly define the tourism trade enterprise, which in cooperation with sector stakeholders will be able to add to the further growth of Greek tourism”.

In this direction, Kikilias pledged to support trade activities in the coming months.

“It is obvious that trade flourishes in tourist areas and at the same time provides additional strength and leverage to Greek tourism,” said Kikilias, adding that it also sustains the average Greek family and local communities.

A new framework of cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to addressing the needs that will emerge in the upcoming period as a result of important Recovery Fund-driven investments and synergies between the two sectors.

The minister met again with ESEE representatives earlier in the fall.
