As part of its corporate social responsibility program, the NJV Athens Plaza hotel in the center of the Greek capital is celebrating the Christmas holiday season in a sustainable way and with the lowest possible impact on the environment.

The hotel announced that its Christmas decoration this year features used and recycled materials while its menus have been carefully designed aiming to limit food waste.

Festive but sustainable decoration

NJV Athens Plaza’s staff has decorated the hotel’s impressive Christmas tree with previously used ornaments mixed with new ones made of recycled materials.

The trees, vases and pots that decorate the hotel’s halls are made of natural moss, wild roses and greenery of fir, pine and thuja.

Moreover, the hotel has used LED Christmas lights that consume up to 80 percent less energy compared to regular lights.

Also, the building’s exterior lighting system operates through a sophisticated LED lighting management software.

Specially designed menus

NJV Athens Plaza has also carefully designed its menus to limit food waste.

“From appetizers to fruit, our chef has used seasonal products with a short supply chain and respect for land and sea,” the hotel’s management said in an announcement.

The NJV Athens Plaza’s sustainability strategy is lead by the 4Rs of sustainable development: reduction, reuse, recycle, recovery.

A member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts, the NJV Athens Plaza hotel is located at central Syntagma Square. It includes 162 rooms and 18 suites; venues suitable for meetings, events and conferences; the a la carte restaurant “The Parliament” offering Mediterranean cuisine; “The Explorer’s Bar Bistro” and the “Plaza Café”.
