According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the total passenger traffic at Greek ports in the second quarter of 2021 recorded an increase of 70.8 percent compared to the same period of 2020. It is noted that when comparing the second quarter of 2020 with that of 2019, a decrease of 67 percent is recorded. More specifically, 9,638,547 people were transported through Greek ports during the second quarter of 2019, while in 2020 the number dropped to 3,179,197. In the second quarter of 2021 the number grew to 5,430,806 people (Table 1).The total movements of goods in Greek ports in the second quarter of 2021 increased by 5.7 percent compared with the second quarter of 2020 (when comparing the second quarter of 2020 with that of 2019, a decrease of 11.5 percent is recorded). Moreover, ELSTAT’s data showed that a significant rise of 49.9 percent was recorded for the total traffic of mobile units at Greek ports, compared to the second quarter of 2020 (when comparing the second quarter of 2020 with that of 2019, a decrease of 44.4 percent is recorded).
