Air Travel Greece Manages to Extend Tourist Season into November by GTP editing team 20 December 2021 written by GTP editing team 20 December 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 18 Greece managed to extend its tourist season by several months this year achieving a 344.2 percent increase in traveler flows in November over the same month in 2020, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said. The number of international arrivals for the same month also rose by 524.7 percent to 426,284, the HCAA said, against November 2020 and 74,005 passenger arrivals. In terms of flights, November 2021 fared better than 2020 welcoming 22,771 flights, up by 110.6 percent over the same month in 2020 and 10,810 flights. Greek airports handled a total (arrivals and departures) 1.9 million passengers in November this year, up by 344.2 percent compared to November 2020 and 444,035 passengers. Photo source: South Aegean Tourism Initiative Over the 11-month period – from January to November 2021, Greek airports recorded a 75.3 percent rise compared to the same period in 2020 but were still down by 44.8 percent over the same period in pre-Covid 2019. More specifically, according to HCAA data, a total of 34 million passengers went through Greek airports marking a 75.3 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2020 at 19.4 million passengers but down by 44.8 percent over pre-pandemic 2019 and 61.6 million passengers. A total of 361,958 flights: 151,762 domestic and 210,196 international were recorded in the 11-month period marking 48.8 percent increase over 2020 and 243,252 flights. Figures were still down by 28 percent however over January-November 2019 and a total of 502,646 flights.
