Greece and Georgia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the culture sector and develop joint activities and programs, the Greek Culture Ministry said. The announcement came after a recent meeting in Athens between Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and Εliso Bolkvadze, president of the cultural committee of the parliament of Georgia and prominent pianist. During the meeting, Bolkvadze requested Greece’s knowhow on archaeological research, monument conservation and restoration, and on the operation of music schools and conservatories. According to the ministry, Greek and Georgian experts will soon meet to discuss cooperation in the aforementioned fields. Bolkvadze and Mendoni also discussed the organization of joint cultural events next year to mark the celebrations for the 30th anniversary since the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations. Among the issues put to the table was Greece’s participation in the International Music Festival of Batumi. Moreover, Greece and Georgia will look into ways to enhance the translation of each other’s works of literature through a program run by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Georgia to Greece David Dondua.
