Photo source: Ministry of Culture The Capodistrias Museum – Center of Capodistrian Studies is among the 60 nominees for the European Museum of the Year Award (ΕΜΥΑ) 2022. A significant distinction presented by the European Museum Forum under the auspices of the Council of Europe, EMYA is awarded every year to a museum that has attracted and welcomed its visitors using high standards and innovative approaches. Photo source: Ministry of Culture According to an announcement by the Greek Culture Ministry, the nomination of the Capodistrias Museum is a significant honor for the museum and Greece in general. The Capodistrias Museum is the only Greek museum shortlisted for the 2022 EMYA award. Founded in 1981 on the island of Corfu, the museum is dedicated to the life and work of Ioannis Capodistrias, European diplomat who served as first governor of independent Greece between 1827–1831. Located in Koukouritsa, the museum was established on Capodistrias’ family estate and includes family portraits and photos, Capodistrias’ seals and family tree, religious artifacts, furniture from Koukouritsa, official documents and archives, books from Capodistrias’ personal library, honorary medals and more.
