The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) service in China was recently honored with the “WeChat Channels Creator Plan” award by WeChat, China’s largest social media platform.

WeChat is a multi-purpose instant messaging, social media and mobile payment app operated by the Tencent group.

The GNTO was honored for implementing best practices and using WeChat for promotional activities in the tourism sector.

The award was received by the Head of the GNTO service in China, Ioannis Plexousakis, during a special event held last week and attended by Tencent and WeChat executives as well as representatives of 40 national tourism organizations.

During the event, the GNTO presented all the activities and promotional campaigns that Greece has carried out through the WeChat channels.

The national tourism organizations of Germany and Portugal also presented their destinations as WeChat’s selected “Best Practices NTOs”.

WeChat counts over 1.2 billion active users. Its new video streaming service launched in mid-2020.

The GNTO collaborates with popular vloggers, influencers and the team of Wechat channels to promote Greece to the Chinese audience.

The organization’s campaigns have had over 8 million views on WeChat since the beginning of 2021.
