Ambassador of Nigeria to Athens Opunimi Akinkugbe and Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.

Greece and Nigeria recently confirmed their mutual interest to strengthen their cultural relations.

Following a meeting last week between Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and the Ambassador of Nigeria to Athens Opunimi Akinkugbe, it was decided that the two countries will cooperate on developing synergies in contemporary cultural creation and crafts – two sectors that have a long tradition for both Athens and Nigeria.

According to an announcement by the Greek Culture Ministry, the two countries will also work together to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods. “An issue considered high priority,” the ministry said.

Athens and Nigeria will soon sign memorandums of cooperation that will concern the aforementioned fields.
