After a year of absence due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Rhodes International Marathon event will return to the island of Rhodes for its eighth edition on April 10.

Last year, the event was held in a virtual form with the participation of over 2,000 runners from 44 countries.

Registration for the 2022 marathon race is now open at www.rhodesmarathon.gr.

As in previous years, the Rhodes International Marathon is expected to attract runners from Greece and abroad. The event includes a marathon race; a half-marthon route; a 10km; and a 5km races.

Considered a significant sports event in southeastern Greece, the marathon over the years has attracted some of the top runners in the world. Athletes are able to enjoy the race by the sea combined with the beauties of the island of Rhodes.

Moreover, the marathon is said to significantly benefit the local community and tourism.

“The love of runners (for Rhodes) and the strong connection of the island’s residents with the marathon race inspire us to provide our best to achieve the greatest event in the history of Rhodes International Marathon,” the president of the organizing committee and vice president of EAS SEGAS Dodecanese, Marieta Papavassiliou, said.

Certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the event is co-organized by the South Aegean Region and the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) EAS Dodecanese branch, with the support of the Rhodes Municipality and the Rhodes Hoteliers Association.

It will be held under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
