The Region of Central Macedonia for the first time took part in the International Tourism Trade Fair Fitur 2022, which ran in Madrid this year during January 19-23.

Spain is a significant tourism market for Greece as Spanish travelers are known for taking high-budget and long holidays, the region said in an announcement.

Fitur’s visitors showed their interest for Central Macedonia, an area that combines the sea and sun with thematic tourism activities related to nature and outdoor activities as well as religious, historic and cultural tourism.

“Spain is one of the largest tourist markets in Europe with visitors who are interested in combining many forms of tourism and offer a high budget for their holidays. Spain is also a gateway to Europe for the Spanish-speaking residents of Latin America,” Central Macedonia Deputy Governor for Tourism Alexandros Thanos said.

He also announced that the region’s opening to the Spanish market will be carried out in cooperation with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and its office that will soon reopen in Spain.

During Fitur 2022, the region’s executives held a number of B2B meetings with travel agents and tourism professionals and presented Central Macedonia as a safe destination that offers unique, diverse and authentic experiences to visitors throughout the year.

Fitur’s attendees expressed interest for the history of Alexander the Great, the steps of the Apostle Paul, Mount Olympus, the nature of Central Macedonia and the region’s beautiful beaches.

Fitur this year attracted a total of 7,000 exhibitors from 107 countries as well as 80,000 visitors.
