Event News Greek Gastronomy and Diet to be Explored in Online Event on Feb 15 by GTP editing team 11 February 2022 written by GTP editing team 11 February 2022 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 41 Greek gastronomy and diet will take center stage during an online culinary event scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on February 15. Titled “Greek Gastronomy and Diet Festival: From Ancient Times to modern Mediterranean wellbeing philosophy”, the virtual event is an opportunity for everyone to explore Greek gastronomy and create an ecosystem of Greek food lovers in Hong Kong and mainland China. Organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the festival also aims to encourage people to travel and experience the real Greece. The idea was initiated by Dimitrios Buhalis, visiting professor of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University during a conversation on Greek gastronomy with SHTM Dean Kaye Chon. The conversation soon evolved into a gastronomy festival. Konstantinos Kattoulas, consul general of the Consulate General of Greece in Hong Kong and Dimitris Fragakis, Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) embraced the idea and provided official support. As the event’s organizers point out, food for Greeks is much more than eating. “Eating in Greece is not just a biological function. All the way from the ancient symposia, eating is about socializing and connecting with friends and family. Similarly with Chinese, Greeks always eat together and share food,” they said. The festival will take place as a virtual event via You Tube. It will also feature the Greek Gastronomy and Diet Conference that will be held online with the participation of tourism and gastronomy experts from Greece and Hong Kong including Greek Deputy Tourism Minister Sofia Zacharaki; GNTO Sectetary General Dimitris Fragakis; Greece Consul General in Hong Kong Konstantinos Kattoulas; and SHTM Professor Cathy Hsu.
