The travel advisory came amid worsening tensions on the border between Ukraine and Russia. The ministry issued an announcement following a meeting convened on Monday by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias. The meeting was attended by Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos; Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameus; and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly discourages all travel in any part of Ukraine’s territory, and at the same time advises Greek citizens currently in Ukraine to leave the country immediately,” the announcement said. The ministry urged Greek citizens who have not already left the country, to immediately register their contact details with the Greek Embassy in Kyiv. It is noted that the staff levels at the Greek Embassy in Kyiv has been reduced to essential personnel only. According to the ministry, the staff of the Greek Consulate General in Mariupol will increase.
