The Greek island of Corfu will soon be getting a new recreational boat berthing facility after Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou signed a concession deal with construction firm Tomi Avete on Monday. The project, to go up in the Cafe Yali area, was presented during a special event at the Old Port of Corfu. The new berth is budgeted at 9,700,000 million euros and slated for completion in 18 months. Funding for the project has been secured through the EU’s ESPA tool for 2014-2020. Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou said the new berthing facility will be “a modern development project which will add value to the wider region and have multiple benefits, both for the residents and visitors to Corfu”. The project will be managed by the Corfu Port Authority and the Ionian Islands Region will oversee its completion by December 2023. The mooring facility will have multiple benefits, both for the permanent residents and for the tourist brand name of Corfu and the Ionian Islands Region, Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou added. The new marina berth will cater to the needs of leisure craft owners and will be equipped with specialized infrastructure, including power and water supply, fire protection, and support facilities.
