Northern Greece’s Wines Go to Festival in Italy

Northern Greece’s wines and wineries were presented to Italian tourism professionals during the International Wine Tasting Festival that took place in Italy.

Held in Matera during March 5-7, the event had Greece as the honored country and participations included wineries from Italy and Serbia.

The Greek mission attending the event included the attendance of representatives from the Region of Central Macedonia and the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization.

Central Macedonia

During the International Wine Tasting Festival, a presentation of Central Macedonia’s destinations, wineries and rich wine production took place by the region’s representatives who also introduced the strong cultural ties of Central Macedonia with Southern Italy.

A wine tasting event was also held and attended by sommeliers and chefs.

“The region of Central Macedonia promoted wine tourism, an alternative form of tourism that provides travelers with a wide variety of wines, wineries open to visitors and experiences during all seasons,” Deputy Governor for tourism Alexandros Thanos said.

Representatives of the Greek mission also participated in meetings and events organized in Italy by the Hellenic-Italian Chamber in collaboration with the municipality, the chamber and the province of Matera, the region of Basilicata and the area’s Greek consulate.

Furthermore, through its meetings with local bodies, the Greek mission established the foundations for future partnerships in Southern Italy, “an area featuring strong connections with Greece,” he added.

Thessaloniki

During the wine tasting festival in Matera, Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) CEO Kostis Hantzaridis and Marketing Director Grigoris Toulias presented the city’s tourism identity and wine tourism offerings.

In addition, Chefs Giorgos Palasidis and Pasquale Lembo presented local wines and recipes to the festival’s visitors.

“Our winemakers are pioneers with a modern vision and ideal ambassadors of [Greek] tourism. The organization aims to continue promoting the destination through exhibitions, festivals, workshops and events in order to keep the interest of tourism professionals alive,” TTO President Voula Patoulidou said.

The event was also attended by representatives of the municipalities of Katerini, Veria and Peonia.
