Air Travel Greek Airports Welcome 299.1% Rise in Int’l Arrivals for January-March by GTP editing team 21 April 2022 written by GTP editing team 21 April 2022 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 11 Greece’s airports recorded a surge in arrivals in the first quarter of the year welcoming a total of 4.49 million passengers on 56,323 flights, according to data released recently by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA). More specifically, the number of arrivals in the January-March period increased by 299.1 percent over the same quarter in 2021 and 1.1 million. The level is still however below record pre-pandemic 2019 arrival figures. Flight numbers also rose by 81.7 percent compared to Q1 2021 (30,994) to 56,323: 34,640 international and 21,683 domestic but still remained down by 13.9 percent on 2019’s 65,437 flights in the same period. According to HCAA data, arrivals in March increased by 365.3 percent to 1.89 million compared to 406,879 in March 2021. Flights for the same month rose by 93.1 percent to 21,228: 12,577 international and 8,651 domestic, compared to 10,996 flights in total in March 2021. Domestic arrivals in March grew by 676.8 percent to 523,533 passengers compared to 67,396 a year earlier. Flights for the same month were down by 8.8 percent compared to March 2019, total traffic (arrivals and departures) down by 24.5 percent, and international arrivals down by 25.4 percent, the HCAA said. Overall in 2021, Greece’s airports saw passenger traffic rise by 80.9 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
