Report findings reveal that travel from the US to European destinations is set to increase by a massive 600 percent compared to a year earlier replacing summer road trips. According to analysts who evaluated over 40,000 flight routes for trips of five to eight days for May, London is in the lead accounting for 22 percent of all bookings, followed by Paris, Dublin, Reykjavik, Rome, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Athens, Barcelona and Amsterdam. In the meantime, Athens is still among the Top 10 favorites at number 8 but fell three spots from fifth position in 2021 to the eighth this year. Athens, Greece At the same time, the report found that 75 percent of all US travelers plan to spend seven days on vacation this summer and 11 percent are hoping for eight days away from home. “The pandemic made people realize you can’t take travel for granted and many Americans are eager to visit Europe this summer,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA. “European destinations have made a significant effort to welcome Americans back and our data shows tremendous pent up demand for travel to the continent,” he added.
