Greece saw its online reputation improve in March, recording the best level achieved over the past two years, according to the Athens / Greece Sentiment Tracker for March 2022 released by SETE Intelligence (INSETE), the research department of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE).

More specifically, compared to rival destinations such as Italy, Spain and Portugal, Greece’s e-reputation increased by 26 points in March while  Athens’ score remained unchanged.

In fact, INSETE analysts found that Greece outdid its rivals Portugal (+22), Spain (+15) and Italy (+9) in terms of net sentiment score.

At the same time, the volume of online discussions about Greece are high for most of Greece’s major markets, while Italy and the US registered an increase in positive sentiment in March.

Meanwhile, Athens’ sentiment score demonstrated resilience and increased in all markets especially in Italy and the US.

According to INSETE data, the positive sentiment about Greece in March was driven by the country’s decision to ease travel restrictions for the upcoming travel season.

One of the top conversations online about Greece focuses on Greek gastronomy while talk about Athens focused on its nightlife.

Greece scored 9.2 in terms of experience-based reputation surpassing the European average by 0.5 points. Among others, the country scored well for sanitary safety based on visitor reviews (6.4/10) and Athens (7.5/10) – both above the European average of 5.5/10 in March.

The study, which follows February findings, was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens and TCI Research and focused on March 2022.
