Condor’s Return to Athens Confirms German Traveler Interest in Greece

Leisure airline Condor will be offering flights to 17 destinations in Greece from eight airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said Paul Schwaiger, the head of strategic planning for the carrier.

Schwaiger presented the company’s plans to Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias during a meeting this week in Athens after Condor’s arrival to the Greek capital in mid-April for the first time after almost 20 years.

As part of its 2022 summer schedule, Condor will be connecting Athens with Düsseldorf four times a week (Monday – Wednesday – Friday – Sunday) and with Leipzig twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays.

Condor’s return to Athens, validates the company’s trust in the dynamic of Greece’s tourist product and marks the return of the Greek capital to the center of international interest, said Kikilias.

The minister went on to add that Greece was getting “very positive messages” for tourism this year with airlines increasing seat availability and including more destinations in their programming.

Schwaiger commended Greece for its tourism promotion strategy and on the upgraded image of Athens and attracting new investments, which provide added value to the tourism industry.

He confirmed that Greece was a leading holiday choice for German travelers with tour operators TUI and DER Touristik speaking of double the number of bookings for many Greek destinations through to November.

“After the US, the UK, and France, now Germany also acknowledges the dynamics of our country abroad, the upgrade of the Greek brand name, but also solidifies the relationship of trust that we’ve been building all these months,” said Kikilias, adding that “after more than two years of Covid-19, and having successfully responded to the challenges of this unprecedented global health crisis, Greece is proving every day that it is a safe country for its visitors and their families”.
