According to central bank tentative data, in the first quarter of the year, incoming traffic flows rose by 295.8 percent to 1,072,700 compared to Q1 2021 and 271.0 thousand. A closer look reveals a travel flow increase of 475.5 percent through Greece’s airports and a 192.1 percent rise through road border-crossing points. In the same period, the number of travelers from the EU increased by 272.0 percent year-on-year to 592.3 thousand and by 329.5 percent to 480.4 thousand for those outside the EU. Specifically, the number of travelers from Germany grew by 306.9 percent to 151.4 thousand, from France by 531.9 percent to 53.7 thousand, from the UK by 504.9 percent to 91.6 thousand, from the US by 1,412.5 percent to 37.7 thousand, and from Russia by 1,429.3 percent to 8.6 thousand. March travel receipts up by 404.3 percent For the month of March 2022, the number of incoming travelers rose by 318.9 percent year-on-year to 414.3 thousand: up by 561.5 percent through airports and by 194.2 percent via road border points. Looking at source markets in March, the number of travelers from Germany increased by 443.9 percent to 55.5 thousand, from France by 802.6 percent to 27.7 thousand, from the UK by 500.8 percent to 35.2 thousand, from the US by 1,371.7 percent, and from Russia by 1,494.5 percent to 1.4 thousand. March arrivals pushed travel receipts for the month up by 404.3 percent with EU residents generating 84.8 million euros – a 249.9 percent increase over the same month a year ago, while receipts by non-EU travelers was up by 624.4 percent. Indicatively, in March, receipts from Germany rose by 348.8 percent to 26.5 million euros, from France by 714.5 percent to 12.7 million euros, from the UK by 723.4 percent to 17.6 million euros, from the US by 1,955.5 percent to 19.7 million euros, and from Russia by 2,132.9 percent to 1.0 million euros.
