Greece May Re-introduce Covid-19 Measures in the Fall

Although Greeks will no longer be required to wear face masks as of Wednesday, Health Minister Thanos Plevris reiterated that the decision was temporary and that come fall, Covid-19 measures may be re-introduced should the pandemic developments require.

In an interview to Greek media, Plevris also confirmed that a fourth shot of a Covid vaccine – a booster – would be required in September for the general population, not clarifying however whether it will be mandatory.

“It’s a fact that come autumn, there will definitely be a need for coronavirus vaccination for the general population and vulnerable groups,” he said.

Plevris went on to add that the pandemic appeared to be subsiding and that there was limited fear of a wave in summer. He added, however, that experts expect a resurgence of the virus in fall.

“The initial plan was to reinstate measures if and when the pandemic shows impetus,” he said, adding however that he hoped Covid would soon subside not requiring strict measures.

“If we see an outbreak or a new mutation, then everything is on back the table,” he said.

“We want to believe that we are entering a phase of coexistence with the coronavirus so that any measures will concern vulnerable groups,” the minister said, adding that he believes the national health system will not be faced with pressure and that any measures introduced will have to do with specific vulnerable groups.

According to the National Public Health Organization (EODY), in the last 24-hour period, there were 2,575 new Covid19 cases, 272 repeat infections, and 16 deaths.

This week, Greece’s Covid committee of experts is set to announce the health protocols for ferries.

I don’t think it will come back in Greece,in South Africa it’s worse,I’m on vacation in Greece for a month ,so I’m enjoying the freedom from masks ,we’re just made in time when they lifted it , unless a variant emerge that evade Natural immunity, I think than restrictions will be back on table,I doubt a dangerous variant will emerge

When tyrants have too much power they leash their wrath on the peasantry.
