Organized by the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) and in its sixth year, the Thessaloniki International Monument Festival aims to highlight eight historic sites through a number of events including concerts, theater performances and art events. “This monument festival aims to highlight the monuments and the huge cultural heritage of Thessaloniki. Monuments are alive as long as we live with them,” TTO President Voula Patoulidou said. Photo source: timf.gr As part of the festival, Thessaloniki on June 5 will host the Yedi Kule Conquest, a race featuring a specially designed route that will include eight monuments – among them six UNESCO Word Heritage Sites: the Heptapyrgion fortress also known as Yedi Kule the Vlatadon Monastery the church of Hosios David the Byzantine Baths the church of Hagios Nikolaos Orfanos the Islahane (Hamidie School of Arts and Professions) the Pasha’s Gardens and the Trigonion (Alysseos) Tower.
