One of the world’s most popular islands, Santorini, launched a new promotional video for the summer using Greek words in English to describe reasons to visit.

The short video was prepared by MTC Group on behalf of the Municipality of Thira. Using words such as air, aroma, atmosphere, enthusiasm, gastronomy, fantasy, harmony, myth, erotic, paradise – all Greek-based words, the video invites viewers to visit the island and discover their true importance.

Dimitris Sigalas of the Thira municipality said the “hope is for visitors to know these words and discover their meaning when they visit Santorini”, adding that each word represents one of the island’s many offerings. The municipal authority hopes to see the video go viral through social media outlets.

The video debuted on public television this week and was welcomed by Greek language professor and linguist Georgios Babiniotis, who said: “An excellent choice of words starting from history and myth to reach paradise through climate, air, atmosphere, aroma, excitement and imagination; words that are deeply Greek, beautiful, stimulating, poetic.”
