Grecotel Takes Part in ‘Clean Up the Med’ Initiative

The Grecotel Creta Palace hotel, located on the Greek island of Crete, recently held a beach cleanup event as part of the Clean Up the Med initiative.

One of the most significant international campaigns, Clean Up the Med focuses on cleaning beaches and natural sites as well as seabeds. It is is coordinated by Legambiente Onlus.

Grecotel Creta Palace’s event took place on June 7, one day before World Oceans Day 2022, and saw volunteers, hotel guests and staff clean the beach in front of its premises in the area of Rethymno.

The hotel’s management provided participants with gloves, masks and bags for the collection of litter and recyclable materials.

“We carried out a cleanup program on our coastline aiming to increase our environmental consciousness as well as of our guests. This is part of Clean Up the Med, an activity that is directly related to the way we live, work and operate in the hotel on a daily basis,” Grecotel Creta Palace Operations Manager Georgios Perantonakis said.

The hotel’s little guests also took part in the event with the help of Maik, Grecotel’s experiential carriage designed especially for children.

“Grecotel continues its social activities focusing on the new generation… For this action we recruited Mike, an experiential interactive carriage for children that helps our little friends improve their environmental behavior through play,” Grecotel Head of Wellness and Fitness Manolis Sfakianakis said.

Grecotel is a pioneer in the field of environmental protection, preservation and promotion. In the early 1990s the group established a special depatment for culture and the environment.

The group’s operations are based on international standards for sustainable development.

Grecotel Creta Palace has been awarded the “Blue Flag” for 29 years in a row for implementing the program’s strict criteria involving the cleanliness of both the sea and the beach, the safety of guests, the protection of nature and environmental awareness.
