The Municipality of Heraklion on the island of Crete is promoting the natural beauty and historic villages of its mainland in a new brochure that is available in English and in Greek.

The new brochure “Heraklion, gifts of nature” is distributed through the info points located at the city’s tourism hotspots and includes photo material of the municipality’s mainland destinations, as well as suggestions for tours to villages, historic monuments, monasteries, churches and natural sites.

Furthermore, the brochure provides information on local art, local festivals (panigiria) and flavors.

“Our mainland destinations have a lot to offer to visitors. We continue our tourism policy to make Heraklion a year-round tourism destination but we are also interested in the balanced development of both the center and surrounding areas of our municipality,” Deputy Mayor responsible for tourism Giorgos Sisamakis said.

The brochure will soon be available to travelers through hotels, travel agencies and other tourism-related bodies.

The municipality also offers foreign visitors an English-language map for Heraklion’s mainland destinations.
