Gundari, a new hotel chain of Australian interests, recently began construction of a new ultra-luxury green resort on the Greek island of Folegandros.

The upscale tourism investment, which is expected to exceed 20 million euros, will be developed in the southern part of the island in two phases.

The first phase sees the Gundari Folegandros resort with 26 rooms in operation by 2023 and the second phase provides for the operation of an additional 24 rooms within the next two years.

Founded by Ricardo Larriera, Gundari is an innovative new resort brand focused on providing high-end luxury experiences in unique locations with resorts built in accordance to principles of sustainable development and zero carbon footprint energy consumption.

Gundari Folegandros will be the brand’s first resort.

A sustainable tourism project, Gundari Folegandros will be known for energy saving and environmental protection while also having facilities adjusted to the area’s distinctive landscape.

Its design will feature bioclimatic buildings, energy efficiency based on renewables, a zero-waste policy, plastic-free practices, a tree planting program and more.

Gundari Folegandros’ suites and villas will feature autonomous heated swimming pools and stunning views to the Aegean sea.

The resort will offer two large heated swimming pools as well as a 400-square-meter spa which will feature state-of-the-art facilities for hydrotherapy sessions and treatments inspired by the natural springs and baths of ancient Greece, using extracts from the area’s wild herbs.

The Gundari Folegandros resort also intends to offer unique gastronomy experiences.

Guests will find authentic Greek dishes on a menu curated by Chef Lefteris Lazarou, owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant Varoulko in Athens. Lazarou’s menu will include some of the island’s best products, and a variety of Greek and international wines.

Gundari Folegandros’ construction begins with special ceremony

Ambassador of Australia to Greece Arthur Spyrou, Thira Prefect Charalambos Darzentas, Folegandros Mayor Efthalia Papadopoulou, Gundari Founder and CEO Ricardo Larriera.

A special ceremony for the beginning of the construction of the Gundari Folegandros resort was held recently on site by Gundari.

Attendees included Australian Ambassador to Greece Arthur Spyros, Folegandros Mayor Efthalia Papadopoulou, other local officials and media representatives.

It should be mentioned that Enterprise Greece, a state-run agency responsible for the implementation of the country’s strategy for the promotion of exports and investments, assisted in speeding up procedures for the project’s approval and licensing by state and local authorities.

“Gundari Folegandros is a unique concept. It combines sustainable tourism development with luxury hospitality experiences. It fully respects the environment, the authenticity and the simplicity of Folegandros,” Enterprise Greece CEO Giorgos Filiopoulos said in an announcement.

Deat Reader,
i am an Italian that fall in love for FOlegandros as i went there the first time in 2004, year of Olimpyc games in Athens. I can say i totaly fall in love and find Folegandros magic and unique after have visited almost all the main Cyclades and the main island of Dodecaneso. As i went to spend the summer holiday of 2004 i start to look to invest for a private villa. I liked a lot the old house thipical ot the island but was almost impossibile to find someone who sell. After year of search i found this Ingeneer of Salonicco that was building 4 villas just out of Chora in a very amazing position and wiew. THis villas are all made by stone and old local tree and with high prestigiuse details. Looking the rendering I realize that the proget waas really wonderfull so i imedialtly buy one of the villas. During this year i note that in Folegandros the urbanistic evolution was always in line with the elegance and armonic that there has been always in the Island. I write to tell you that i am really happy to read about your proget. Because this means 2 main thing 1) if from australia you beliieve so harldly in Folegandros is a confirm of what i always thought of the Island as one of the most beauytifull island in the mediterraneo 2) a project like yours give of course add value to all the island and maybe could give to Folegandros the imprinting to an esclusive Island if otherand luxury prestigiuse structur will born. Of course the island is little and is a limit. But for me the dimensione so little of the island is one of the most point positive becuse all you do in island is relaxing and easy all you do in one vacation you socialize with almost all the peaple and touris expecialy for the charatteristic of the Chora so beaty withut car and all in flat ground. All the peaple in the night find surly themeselfe there like a big house of all and you can really socialize as much as you wont you never feel alone. Now after all the year i go to FOle we are a group af about 100 friend from italy and greek all peaply of high level of coulture and every night in august we orginize dinner or party in rrestourant or in the house. Well my best wishis for your project. My pleasure and best regards Aldo Torrisi
