Piraeus Port Authority Receives 3 Certifications for Sustainability Standards

The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) recently received three ISO certifications for its commitment to implementing best practices in solutions for quality, environmental and energy management.

During the international shipping exhibition Posidonia 2022, PPA Deputy CEO Weng Lin was presented with the certifications of ISO 9001:2015 for quality management; ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management, and ISO 50001:2018 for energy management, by Stuart Kelly, global sales director business assurance at LRQA, a leading global assurance provider.

PPA’s certification commenced following the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 with LR in 2013. The full spectrum of certifications covers the provision of port cruise, ferry, RoRo and container terminal services, management of logistics centre, provision of dry docking services for the repair of vessels and sub-concessions of berthing posts and land space for the repair of vessels, as well as port construction and maintenance projects.

PPA committed to ‘greening’ operations

According to Weng Lin, PPA has set up a decarbonization roadmap until 2030 aligned with the goals of EU Green Deal and the Fit-for-55 package.

“Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030 compared with 1990 levels is an ambitious goal for EU and we must all join forces to achieve it. We are committed to ‘greening’ our operations and seeking ways to reduce our own emissions, while supporting vessels to their efforts towards decarbonization,” he said.
