Greece is a favorite destination for French tourists ranking number 1 in the monthly barometer released by L’ Echo Touristique owned by Orchestra leisure platform.

Greece ranked first, up by 77 percent in terms of turnover and by 18 percent in average spending compared to pre-pandemic 2019 outshining rival destinations and keeping in line with the tourism ministry’s strategy to maintain a strong dynamic.

In an interview to local media, Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias welcomed the news adding that it is the result of “ongoing efforts and hard work”.

The minister referred to key outward actions including entering agreements with airlines for more flights and connections this year and upgrading the tourist product on offer in order to attract higher-spending travelers.

Kikilias reiterated that the tourism industry is a key revenue-generator for the Greek economy with one in four euros coming from tourism.

In spring, Kikilias met with French tour operators and agents, who held their annual “Forces de Ventes” conference in the coastal town of Loutraki.

Speaking during the event, Kikilias cited the rate of bookings from the French market which he said was “dynamic” and in many cases exceeded pre-Covid 2019 levels.

He added that he was expecting a good year ahead backed by robust tourism flows from France and that there are more than 3 million available airline seats to Greece open this summer.

The top 10 destinations selected by French travelers in May according to the L’ Echo Touristique monthly barometer are Greece, Spain, metropolitan France, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Italy, Egypt, Dominican Republic, and Mauritius.
