Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian), the largest aviation group in Africa, last week resumed flights between Addis Ababa and Athens International Airport (AIA) in Greece.

The only airline connecting Greece with Sub-Saharan Africa, Ethiopian will carry out three weekly flights, operated by B737-800 aircraft, between the two cities.

Following an 18-year absence from the Athenian market, Ethiopian relaunched the Addis Ababa – Athens route in late 2019 (before the Covid period). During the two years of the pandemic, Ethiopian continued its flights throughout the July 2020 – February 2022 period and now since June 23.

Ethiopian was founded in 1945 and started operating on April 8, 1946, with five DC-3 / c-47 aircraft. The airline made its maiden flight to Cairo via Asmara, opening a new chapter in the history of African aviation.

Ethiopian began its scheduled routes to Athens in April 1954, making the city one of its first European destinations. The route connected Nairobi and Athens via Addis Ababa, in addition to Trans World Airline’s transatlantic connection to both Cairo and Athens.
