The coastal town of Nafpaktos in Western Greece is attracting investor interest thanks to its wide array of tourism products, said Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias during his visit this week.

Together with Western Greece Region Governor Nektarios Farmakis, Kikilias met with Nafpaktos Mayor Vassilis Gizas and local tourism and hospitality stakeholders.

The minister said there was “intense investor interest in the wider region” and pledged ministry support through the national resilience funding tool and ESPA packages.

Kikilias said he was pleased with the 90 percent occupancy levels reported by local hoteliers, adding that the city was a top ministry priority placed on the national map of destinations slated for strategic tourist development.

He went on to refer to the comparative advantages of the coastal town which include being close to Athens, next to the landmark Rio-Antirio Bridge, one of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and the longest fully suspended type. Nafpaktos is also in close proximity to several airports, can stand out for its climbing and sports tourism offerings as well as for its high quality food and drink products.

Among other activities, Kikilias visited breweries and honey producers in the region and said agritourism activity can contribute significantly to the national economy and local communities, help preserve the traditional way of life, strengthen the primary sector, and create new well-paid jobs that will motivate young people to stay.

“Our goal is to strengthen agritourism based on the principles of sustainable development, enhance the Greek tourism brand, and showcase the unique identity of Greek products,” said Kikilias.

Lastly, he said that Nafpaktos was an ideal long weekend destination and invited Greeks and foreigners to visit.
