Athens Chamber of Tradesmen (EEA) President Ioannis Hadjitheodosiou joined Gerekou and Pappas to discuss ways to promote the area and its wide variety of tourism products through the creation of synergies. Gerekou referred to the unknown treasures in and around the municipality of Fyli – also known as Chasia – which is located at the foot of Mount Parnitha northwest of Athens. The working group agreed to identify and promote monasteries, hiking trails and climbing points on Mt Parnitha, develop new tourism and sports activities, create ecoparks in the area, and further showcase events and festivals that have been taking place for several years now. One such event is the Athens-Fyli Climb Fest attracting every year professional and amateur climbers from Greece and abroad. “The incredible hidden beauties of the Fyli municipality, the unique ecosystem, biodiversity and the woods of Western Parnitha can become an important alternative tourism destination in Attica, offering many forms of tourism focusing on sports, religion, history and culture,” said Gerekou pledging the GNTO’s support in the endeavor. “We will proceed with the aim of giving new impetus to the destination and changing the area’s brand name,” she added.
