Among the stations hosting advertisements of Thessaloniki is the tube’s “Angel” stop located near the venue that will host the food festival of the National Geographic Traveller that is scheduled to take place during July 16-17. The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization will participate in NatGeo’s food festival with local chef and gastronomy professor Giorgos Palisidis who will present flavors and local products of Thessaloniki. The Greek city’s promo action is part of TTO’s new project titled “London Calling, Thessaloniki Cooking”, that aims to promote the city’s gastronomic identity to the British market. “We’ve decided to showcase Thessaloniki in London’s busy tube with the aim to promote the destination’s comparative advantages. Thessaloniki can become a 12-month destination that offers authentic tourism experiences and options,” TTO President Voula Patoulidou said. As highlighted by Patoulidou, the organization is promoting Thessaloniki’s true character and identity through careful steps and strategic planning. “Thessaloniki is a modern cosmopolitan destination with historic and cultural heritage that can cover the desires of the most demanding travelers with safe quality options, even in gastronomy,” she added. The organization is also planning to run a digital campaign focused on Thessaloniki’s gastronomy until late November and publish articles in popular British media outlets such as The Guardian. TTO will also support a press trip in collaboration with the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) office in the UK and Ireland for Greentraveller Journalist Richard Hammond.
