The company decided to invest in CHOOSE taking under consideration that travelers have become more aware of the impact travel has on the environment and are now demanding ways to reduce or eliminate the impact on the environment their travel makes. In fact, according to data from the WTTC, 83 percent of global travelers consider sustainable travel vital and 69 percent expect the travel industry to offer more sustainable options. “Our investment in CHOOOSE demonstrates our commitment to working collaboratively with industry leaders and the startup ecosystem together to address climate change,” said Suzanna Chiu, Head of Amadeus Ventures, Amadeus. CHOOOSE’s technology offers advanced emission calculations across the travel journey – from air travel, accommodation to ground transportation – built upon widely recognized, industry standard frameworks. The investment from Amadeus Ventures demonstrates its commitment to building a partnership that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing to offer concrete options to travelers looking to take climate action. “We see great potential in the CHOOOSE team who is both knowledgeable and passionate about providing solutions addressing climate change to the travel and logistics industries,” Chiu added. CHOOOSE automates carbon emission calculations and offers seamless access to a marketplace of solutions aimed at reducing or eliminating climate change including carbon removals, carbon offsets and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) – all within simple, flexible interfaces in existing customer experiences so that travelers easily can take action to prioritize the impact of travel on the climate. “We recognize that sustainability in the travel industry is a global challenge and only by working together will we be able to provide global solutions,” said Olivier Girault, VP, Sustainability Ecosystem Initiatives, Amadeus. Through the collaborative approach taken between Amadeus and CHOOOSE, travelers and travel agents using Amadeus’ solutions will be able to explore a portfolio of vetted solutions addressing climate change and seamlessly purchase offsets or removal solutions to offset the carbon emissions associated with a given trip. Importantly, travelers will have insight into the end-to-end trip, enabling customers to understand and address their carbon impact across their journey – including rail, taxi, airline and hotel segments. “By embracing technology, we can power more sustainable journeys and build an industry that delivers on its 2050 Net Zero goals. This will allow us to secure the long-term growth and prosperity that we all want to see for our industry,” Girault said.
